Before you decide whether you want to take part, you need to understand why the research is being done and what your participation will involve.

  • The purpose of the project is to understand how different groups of women engage with and experience testing hormones in relation to their fertility.

Understanding the target group for hormone testing and capturing user experiences are critical to this research.

  • If you choose to take part in the project, you will be invited to an interview between 45-90 minutes.

You may be invited for a follow-up interview, and you have the right to decline.

If you agree via consent form, the interview will be audio recorded, and I will also take notes.

As part of participation, you will be asked to discuss the overall experience of doing the hormone test. For example, what was happening in your life around this time, what were your expectations of the test and what was it like physically taking the test and waiting for the results.

You will never be asked to share the results of any test.

  • Fertility and reproduction can be socially sensitive topics. For this reason, discussing related matters may bring discomfort to potential participants.

To mitigate this risk, interviews will be semi-structured and conducted at a pace that is appropriate and comfortable for the participant.

  • Participation is completely voluntary.

You should only take part if you want to and choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way.

Please contact me if you have any questions that will help you make a decision about taking part.

If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

  • As compensation for your time in participating in the research, each participant will be given a gift voucher.

  • Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018).

King’s College London has a responsibility to keep information collected about you safe and secure, and to ensure the integrity of research data.

Specialist teams within King’s College London continually assess and ensure that data is held in the most appropriate and secure way.

  • You are free withdraw at any point of the project, without having to give a reason.

Withdrawing from the project will not affect you in any way.

You are able to withdraw your data from the project up until 4 weeks after your interview date after which withdrawal of your data will no longer be possible due to identifiable data being deleted, and transcript data fully anonymised.

If you choose to withdraw from the project, we will not retain the information you have given thus far.

  • The results of the project will be summarised in my final doctoral thesis.

Preliminary and final data results can be made available to research participants.

The data set (interview transcripts) will not be publicly available and only certain quotes that I have permission to use will be in the final research.
